Jigsaw Jiggle

"LIKENED to a jigsaw puzzle, Singapore's independence was achieved with the PAP Old Guard sealing the final piece. However, let us not forget the other pieces who made this picture possible."
Kelvin Lim, in an SMS (in Your Insights, The Straits Times, March 11)

Apparent Meaning:
The PAP fought successfully for the independence of Singapore. Keeping that in mind, let's be reminded of the people who came before the PAP.

Intended Meaning:
Stop hogging the limelight in history textbooks, authoritarian PAP! Despite the PAP's extreme suspicion of communist political ideologies, one cannot deny that past allies with the communists had helped it to gain political foothold. I'll go as far to assert that the Lim Yew Hock government made the largest contribution to Singapore's independence pavin... *incessant babbles*

Heh. Nation-Building (a Singapore Studies module) is fun! :p
