There are eight years left to the Government's self-imposed deadline in 2014 to give almost all public housing blocks direct lift access on every floor.

The multi-billion dollar project is part of a wider effort to make Singapore's living environment more elder- and disabled-friendly.

Opposition-held wards, however, are last in line for these lift upgrades.

In February, there were 3000 high-rise and 800 low-rise blocks without lifts stopping at every floor.
