Heralding Hartono

Harry Connick Jr, Diana Krall, Silje Nergaard... Just when the music genre of jazz appears to be stagnating, new artists never fail to pop up to give the old classics a fresh twist. (That said, artists like Jamie and Norah are just a little too pop and country influenced respectively.)

Even the Pussycat Dolls have their own rendition of the jazz classic, Sway. Although the copious amount of "uh", "ah" and "oohs" that they so generously showcase is a personal peeve for me.

So it comes with no surprise that Singapore is finally ready to showcase another jazz talent after mild international successes by Jacintha Abisheganaden and Claressa Monteiro. This time, in the form of a 16 year old ACS boy, Nathaniel Hartono.

After winning the Teenage Icon '05 awards, he has managed to clinch a record deal, freshly launching his own album "Nathan: Let Me Sing" last month. If luck is on his side, he looks set to rock the local jazz scene.
Boyish good looks to send girls a-screaming... Check.
Ridiculously young age to shut potential critics up... Check.
(Even Jamie Cullum was 20 when he recorded his first album.)

An equally great voice to match... Check.
Onstage charisma to captivate the audience... Check.

Now one final criteria, get famous.

iBlog

I defining iBlogging as impulse blogging, unadulterated unedited babble, I would say.

It's 4.18AM as the digital clock in front of me screams. My family is supposed to leave at 4.30AM by cab to our dear award winning Changi Airport but the taxi is not yet booked. Did I mentioned packing only really began at 12.30AM?

Yes, once again, I have to assert that the eleventh hour runs in the family. Thank God for the ability to sleep late. Or in this case, not even catch a wink.

My sister is still in the toilet, my father is getting irritated and my mother is vexing about something else. And their dear son, is...
blogging.

Well, this is the Lim Family for you...

Gotta go now, before this laptop is flung out of my window.

Details:
Remasterpiece is the first collaboration and international release by artists Chris Coco and Sacha Puttnam.

Sacha has used his strong classical background to select some of the most beautiful moments in classical music and together with Chris, has put them into a context that makes sense to a new generation of listener. The recording is a DJ mix but there is not a beat to be heard. Rather a continuous ‘turntable symphony’, an ambient mix that features re-edits, intelligent reinterpretations and new compositions that form a stunning sonic landscape.

Remasterpiece is a highly original approach to classical music, blending the past and the future in a beautiful mix of classical and ambient music.
