Delirious Devonport
After a whirlwind of activity last weekend, I've finally coerced myself to postpone more entry, albeit a teeny bit behind time. Yikes.
13th July 2007
A quick 10 minutes ferry trip, and we were transported to a seaside suburb of Auckland, Devonport. With a population of about 10000, it boasts of an array of antique and gifts shops.
The first stop was Devonport Stone Oven Bakery and Cafe. As recommended by Lonely Planet, it is well known for its breakfast and lunch meals.
I was pretty irritated at first as I was not informed that we were gonna eat breakfast in Devonport. As a result, I had stuffed myself with a hearty meal before that.
Just to convince you that their chocolates are really fresh, they hire a few professional actors to make chocolates behind a glass display.
The real adventure laid ahead for the brave 9 souls. It was Mount Victoria, the highest volcano on Auckland's North Shore. And so, the dangerously arduous journey begins...
We flirted with death several times as we scaled the baffling heights of this tectonic creation. But we persevered as our alma mater, NUS, has taught us well never to give up in the face of difficulties.
After much blood and sweat, we emerged triumphant... like blind and lame infants conquering the frightening heights of Mount Faber.
We celebrated our victory by paying due respects to our sagacious teachers back home.
We also paid tribute to our fellow brother and sister from University of Hong Kong.
Sneakily, as we were busy engaging in a series of rituals, we unexpectedly met our most-feared nemesis, clumsily known as Gigantic Mushroom. Locked in arms, I mean feet, we trampled our way out of the fungus threat.
Surprisingly, the benevolent government had also provided a public library for the ordinary man on the street.
Our heroic journey ended at North Head of Devonport where we retired happily ever after.
Apologies for the ridiculously reduced size of 3 out of 4 stitched photos... Apparently, pathetic Blogger is not able to display my greatly reduced ones of 2723 by 300 pixels. Does anyone know how to get around this size-limiting problem?

After the epic battle at Mount Victoria, the sect of NUS and HKU headed downhill. We rewarded ourselves with sacred books which were rumoured to be handed down from "you-know-who".

The Teddy Bears Bouncers, constantly on a lookout for anyone who dares to be funny... *growl*Surprisingly, the benevolent government had also provided a public library for the ordinary man on the street.
