Loving Lush

I'll probably be able to do a proper blog entry after this week. It's amazing and unbelievable how just two modules "BN3101: Biomedical Engineering Design" and "BN4101R: Final Year Project" feels heavier than 5 modules...

Maybe age is indeed catching up on me.

Anyway, I just had to thank Chris Ho many many times over. On 22nd September, I participated in a Lush 995 Cd giveaway contest. Days passed and I thought, "Ain't surprising since I've already won so many stuff from them..."

On 29th September, I tried my luck again but to no avail. Or at least that was what I initially thought.

Fast forward another week and guess what appeared in my mail box...

TWO CDS!!!

FYP Contest

Before anyone asks me again for a dinner treat, I think it's time I clarify that I am most likely NOT paid the purported S$600 a month.
As you can see, the conditions laid down was that I had adhere to the working hours of 8.30am to 6pm. So yup, I'm guessing that I'll only be getting paid if I'm a FULL TIME attachment student.

Sorry guys and gals. Kelvin will still be as poor as ever, and definitely unable to give you all treats. :p

On other more realistic news...

28th November 2007: Auckland City

After the usual Family Service at St Paul's Church on Sunday, Danny informed of the festive season lurking near Britomart. Combined with the temptation of authentic Indian food promptly threw off my initial plans to study in school and before long, I, along with the rest were soaking up the Bollywood air.
Brought to you by Asia New Zealand Foundation in partnership with Auckland City Council, the annual Diwali Festival of Lights was held on 27th and 28th October 2007 at the rear of Britomart Transport Centre. (Note: Diwali = Deepavali)
The extremely rare times where I witnessed crowds.
Public performances... of course, complete with quintessential dances
Bhelpuri भेलपूरी
With puffed rice, sev, onion, tumeric, coriander and various unknown spices, it was a spicy snack that catapulted me to seventh heaven.

The Bhelpuri Store
More eating and more eating!

Then again, you might be wondering why do I suddenly chose to blog about this.

The International Relations Office organized a Photo Contest and a Quote Contest in conjunction with International Exchange Day. So amazingly, I managed to snag the second prize under the local interaction category! Here's my entry...

Contentious Contests

People who know me well enough would readily agree that I'm really a sweh buangz (unlucky) at times. Just a couple of hours ago, I manage to set a mini-record in my short mahjong playing history for not winning a game in more than two "winds".

Thus, participating in contests of sorts nowadays and have become more of a calculated art than a mere "lucky draw".

And it is working so far.

It all started out with an innocuous attempt to URBAN, a weekly pull-out from Straits Times. Because URBAN was dishing out a bonanza of prizes that week, I rationalized that my chances of winning would be pretty darn high.

And uncannily, I was soon "richer" with $20 Esprit Voucher.
After my student exchange programme in New Zealand, my interest in wines was more than piqued. So after submitting in to Sunday Times a cringe-worthy entry raving about Hungarian Tokaji wines(of which I've never even tasted before)...

Tada!
Oremus Tokaji Aszu, 3 Puttonyos, 2000

Of course, other than trying out contests on Straits Times, radio was another viable route.

Anyone who tried entering draws and such in popular radio stations would know it can be really frustrating and mostly a waste of time. So it would certainly not be too surprising to get my first CD prize from Symphony 92.4 .

The Best of The 3 Tenors by
Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Jose Carerras
Okay fine. I'm don't really listen to tenors belting out in unbridled vibrato but hey, it was free! Just a call into the radio hotline, and the female dj (can't remember who) hurried me to give my personal details.

If only other girls would show the same passion to me. :p

But since I hardly listen to Symphony, my biggest source of prizes have to be from LUSH 99.5 .

It had given me free access and free flow of drinks to countless parties. But thanks to people pangseh-ing me, I only enjoyed attended two events.

Café del Mar * Singapore
Loof, A Rooftop Bar at Odeon Towers

It's so freaking simple to win prizes, I feel almost guilty winning those email contests.

$100 Fat Face Shopping Voucher

My latest addition to my prize collection was on Thursday. Another quick email to LUSH and one more CD mailed to my house.
